  • Surgical RVN required at South Devon Vet Hospital - Newton Abbot, Devon

An exciting new opening has been introduced at South Devon Vet Hospital. Great work-life balance for full or part time veterinary nurse or student in sunny South Devon.

Great nursing care, great facilities and great lifestyle! Amazing new package: generous salary, buy-leave scheme, day off before and after night duties.

We are looking for a qualified RVN with a surgical interest to expand our experienced team in South Devon. The new position is primarily a theatre role with the use of advanced anaesthesia techniques including neuromuscular blockade and ventilators (full training will be provided). There is a mixture of referral services for Ophthalmology, Laparoscopy, Endoscopy and Orthopaedics with additional first opinion small animal surgery. We have a fully equipped purpose built facility with new CT scanner, ultrasound and Endoscopy suite along with other referral specialities on site to include Cardiology and dentistry.

Nurses participate in all areas of our different referral modalities. We strive to maintain high standards of care and nurture any interests that our nurses have and encompass it where we can in practice. We pride ourselves in offering excellent support for all new staff and students.

The practice consists of 6 permanent on site vets with visiting referral cardiology and dental teams plus a visiting physiotherapist. Whilst we are looking to expand the nursing team, we currently have five qualified RVN’s, one student and one ANA. There is lots more information about our referral services on our referral website.

We are looking for a nurse that wants to do a brilliant job, and have a happy brilliant life! With this as our priority we have completely reviewed our rota, staff benefits package and salary and having benchmarked it against other jobs genuinely believe it can’t be beaten!

Benefits include a generous salary (where experience and further qualifications are further rewarded), a buy-leave scheme, extra leave for long service, pension etc. We promote and encourage CPD (and will fund appropriate CPD generously). We try to nurture any interests that our nurses have and encompass it where we can in practice. We are currently supporting two nurses working towards their advanced nursing diplomas.

Nurses work on a shift basis each shift with a different role to include kennels, prep, dirty ops and theatres and then lab and clinics are allocated each day to ensure everyone gets variety of roles and skills used. Our shift pattern is designed to promote a great work-life balance, allowing for a day off before and after a night shift and allowing a day off following a half weekend on call – we’re happy to chat you through the details!

This position offers a good opportunity for learning and growth with full support from experienced qualified RVN’s and referral specialists.

A good candidate consists of eagerness to potentially step outside of their comfort zone and learn exciting new skills with lots of support from experienced staff. We have a small but perfectly formed amazing team of nurses, so the right candidate will need to be working within this team to achieve the goals of the practice. Whilst we aim to ensure the role is varied, there is no doubt that advanced theatre and anaesthesia techniques will play a large role so if you are interested in this aspect we would love to hear from you.

We promote and encourage CPD (and will fund appropriate CPD generously). We try to nurture any interests that our nurses have and encompass it where we can in practice. We are currently supporting two nurses working towards their advanced nursing diplomas. We have a staff pension scheme in place and other schemes such as childcare vouchers where appropriate.

To apply, please email your CV to Claire at cchallinor@independentvetcare.co.uk or call 07741652975 for more information.
