Vet Wellbeing Award winners 2017 announced, with entries up by 50 percent

  • Vet Wellbeing Award winners 2017 announced, with entries up by 50 percent

    Four winners of the 2017 Vet Wellbeing Awards were announced at the SPVS/VMG Congress at Celtic Manor last week.

    The Vet Wellbeing Awards, now entering their third year, are run by SPVS and the RCVS Mind Matters Initiative and were created to recognise those practices who understand the importance of motivating and engaging their teams and who can demonstrate their commitment to being a better place to work.

    Winners of the Vet Wellbeing Awards 2017

    Small Practice: Meadows Farm Vets, Bromsgrove

    Medium Practice: Viking Vets, Bristol

    Large Practice (joint winners): Blacks Vets, Dudley and White Cross Vets, Leeds

    The judges were impressed with both the quantity and quality of the entries;

    “What came through, particularly with our four winners, was the authenticity of their approach,’ said Lizzie Lockett, RCVS CEO and member of the judging panel. ‘We really felt that these practices had created a culture of wellbeing rather than just ticking boxes.”

    A key message from this year’s winners was the importance of listening to your team said Nick Stuart, from SPVS, who founded the awards:

    “Excellent communication and a supportive work place are essential and the winners were able to demonstrate this. We were delighted to see entries up 50% compared to last year, which I hope shows that more and more practices are putting their team’s health and wellbeing high up the agenda.”

    The awards will be presented at the opening ceremony of the SPVS/VMG Congress on Friday 26th January at Celtic Manor. The winners will then join a panel chaired by psychiatrist and author, Dr Max Pemberton, to discuss how to build Team Cohesion and Resilience in practice. The full results, together with details of the winning practices and the runners up, including case studies, will be published on the Vet Wellbeing Awards website, and available via the Vet Wellbeing Awards Facebook page.
