SPVS brought over 100 veterinary professionals together online last Wednesday (21 October) for its Smarter Practice Tech Day, exploring how technology, AI and digital tools can help practices implement the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) new requirements while improving efficiency and competitiveness.

The Tech Day built on the success of SPVS’ CMA roadshows in May, where discussions highlighted technology as an area requiring further practical support, particularly given the rapid pace of change and the opportunities emerging for veterinary practices

Under the theme Technology for Smarter Working & CMA Success, the event focused on practical solutions that practices can use to streamline everyday processes, strengthen client relationships and make better-informed business decisions.

The programme covered getting more from practice management systems, AI-assisted note-taking, e-prescribing, digital consent, automated processes, online booking, websites, reviews and the use of data and dashboards to support business performance.

SPVS President Pete Orpin said:

“I was really pleased to see how well the SPVS team pulled together expertise, knowledge and guidance for our members to help navigate the journey to becoming a smarter more efficient practice. Technology is advancing very quickly and is clearly a key part of the solutions to the CMA remedies.”

The day emphasised that practices do not need to be technology experts to benefit. Small, practical changes and making better use of existing systems can help reduce pressure on teams, improve efficiency and support compliance.

Delegate Zoe North from New Lodge Veterinary Centre said:

“I have to say, SPVS Smarter Practice Tech Day was excellent – both informative and engaging. It's given me plenty to think about and act on, armed with greater knowledge. One of the best webinars I've attended. Thank you for all your hard work. I look forward to the rest of the SPVS CMA webinar series.”

All delegates receive access to the SPVS Smarter Practice Supplement, bringing together practical articles and a directory of technology providers to help practices explore solutions relevant to their needs.

SPVS continues to support veterinary practices as they implement the CMA remedies, with further opportunities for practical guidance and peer learning through its CMA Support Webinar Series. The next webinar takes place on 5 November, helping practices navigate the changes and consider how to put the requirements into practice.
