Global cat welfare and education charity International Cat Care (iCatCare) are proud to launch the iCatCare Cat Behavioural Health Programme – an immersive online course designed for anyone working with cats to gain a profound understanding of feline behaviour and the skills to advance their Cat Friendly care.

This unique and innovative course provides a rich insight into the fascinating world of cat behaviour, moving from in-depth knowledge about the species through to understanding how to recognise and meet the needs of individual cats at every life stage.

Learners will gain the applied skills needed to turn this knowledge into action. By learning to actively assess the emotional state of the cats in their care and adapt their interactions and environments to promote positive behavioural health, learners gain the confidence to make informed decisions that support each cat’s long-term wellbeing through consistent Cat Friendly care.

Each of the four modules has been developed by internationally renowned experts in feline behaviour and are underpinned by the latest in feline science and research. The course is structured to immerse learners as they explore the comprehensive syllabus, from the biological and evolutionary factors that shape the species, to the individual differences that mean each cat perceives the world uniquely. Learners will apply this knowledge through interactive case studies as they progress through the course, for a dynamic and engaging learning experience that easily translates into their day-to-day work.

Dr Sarah Ellis, programme director and iCatCare’s behaviour and wellbeing lead, says:
“The Cat Behavioural Health Programme is a truly unique and essential course for anyone working with cats who wants to gain an in-depth understanding of feline behaviour. Learn how to deduce and interpret why each individual cat thinks, feels and behaves the way it does, and gain the practical skills to help cats thrive. Across the world cats are misunderstood due to a lack of understanding of their behaviour, and as a result, their welfare suffers. Because a cat cannot tell us how it feels, application of this new knowledge and skills will help you tailor your approach to support the behavioural needs of every cat in your care, improving their mental wellbeing and long-term welfare.”

The Cat Behavioural Health Programme is a much-anticipated addition to the catalogue of high-quality, feline specialist courses offered by iCatCare. This course is tailored for those who care for cats as part of their work, including veterinary professionals, and staff and volunteers working in homing centres, shelters or catteries. Study is self-paced, accessible online and on-demand to fit into a busy schedule.

To support learners further there are options to purchase the 4-module Cat Behavioural Health Programme in full, or for those that require greater flexibility, a pay-per-module option is available. On successful completion of the four modules, learners are awarded the International Cat Care title of Cat Behavioural Health Practitioner.

iCatCare's ambition is that cats experience Cat Friendly care in every interaction they have with people and in environments where care is provided. With over 70% of owners reporting that their cat experiences behaviour problems1, the Cat Behavioural Health Programme aims to significantly improve cat welfare and help prevent these problems from developing.

The Cat Behavioural Health Programme, including the newly-released Module 4, is now available to purchase, on demand at https://icatcare.org/courses/cat-behavioural-health-programme
