Specialist Maura Lazzarotto, who has a passion for veterinary dental education and is a second-generation vet, has joined Linnaeus-owned Davies Veterinary Specialists in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.
Maura, who also has a strong interest in endodontics and oral surgery, said: “I am looking forward to working with residents on exciting new research in the field of dentistry and oral surgery.”
Maura’s love for treating animals started at a young age when she was inspired by reading James Herriot stories, plus she visited farms in rural western-Canada helping her father who is a now-retired dairy veterinary surgeon.
She spent her teenage years living in India before returning to Canada, where she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Global Resource Systems before taking a gap year to backpack through East Africa.
Maura then took a degree in veterinary medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, which was followed by working in general practice for three years.
Following this, Maura started her residency training in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery in New Zealand, after which she moved to Seattle in the US to finish her training and become a head of department.
Ronan Doyle, hospital director at Davies Veterinary Specialists, said: “We are delighted to welcome Maura to lead our dentistry and oral surgery team.
“Having such an experienced specialist on board will also be of great benefit to the on-going growth of our services at Davies.”
Among the dentistry services already available at Davies are endodontic, prosthodontic, restorative, orthodontic, periodontic, diagnostic and advanced extraction procedures.
Oral surgery procedures include trauma, oncogenic, congenital, and fistula repairs.
