Gerhard Putter, Specialist Dental Vet, was presented with his Diploma at the European Veterinary Dental Forum event in Utrecht on 16th – 18th May. At the top Gerhard is photographed with his supervisor during the EVDC Alternative Pathway residency, Dr Cedric Tutt.

Gerhard, BVSc MRCVS MANZCVS (Small Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery) DipEVDC, qualified from the University of Pretoria in 1984 and was accepted as a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1998. He’s been a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists since 2014 and qualified as a diplomat of the European Veterinary Dental College in 2018.

Also a Public Relations Officer for the British Veterinary Dental Association and a member of the European Veterinary Dental Society, Gerhard exclusively treats dental and oral surgery cases. His interest in exotic and zoo animal dentistry has seen him work closely with International Animal Rescue and the Lisa Milella Veterinary Dental Fund, who he recently joined in Armenia to provide dental care for bears.

He’s currently working with IVC to develop Specialist Dental Vet, a new multi-site practice that will operate from Mulberry Vets, Sudbury; Byre Referrals, Peterborough and Wood Street Vet Hospital in Barnet.

Encouraging the development of vets and nurses in all aspects of dentistry is another of Gerhard’s passions. He devotes time to this in and out of practice.

‘Pursuing the diploma required significant investments from everyone around me so this was indeed a team effort. One that could not have completed successfully without the support of my family and colleagues. I did enjoy the journey of discovery and it continues. The one quote from a wise man that I remembered during this process was: most things are difficult before they is easy.’

Congratulations, Gerhard!
