SCVS are very pleased to be welcoming a specialist Oncologist to their growing multi-disciplinary team of over 30 veterinary surgeons. Sofia Carvalho will run the oncology service, working closely with 3 internal medicine specialists and 5 specialist surgeons, as well as other specialists in the disciplines of Imaging, Neurology, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Dermatology and Anaesthesia.
Sofia graduated from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2009. After spending the next year in private practice in Portugal, she moved to the UK to complete an internship in Small Animal Oncology at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC). Sofia continued working for a further year as a clinical research fellow in Small Animal Oncology Clinical Trials followed by a 3 year residency at the RVC. She completed her residency training in Oncology and a Masters in Veterinary Medicine in 2016, and obtained the ACVIM specialist diploma in Oncology in the same year. Sofia has experience working in several large multi-disciplinary referral practices in the UK. Her main clinical interests include canine renal cell carcinomas, development of new anti-cancer therapies, and translational medicine, although she enjoys all aspects of Small Animal Medical Oncology.
