A general small animal vet practice has invested a significant amount in the latest, life-saving CT scanner technology.
Shola Idowu, Joint Venture Partner of Basildon Companion Care said "We're delighted to be one of the first, if not the first general small animal vet practice in the UK to be able to offer this revolutionary service of advanced scanning capability to our patients.”

The Toshiba Astelion Advance CT system is designed to provide outstanding imaging performance. The system is equipped with powerful technology migrated from Toshiba’s premium CT scanners ensuring the Vet achieves the best possible diagnostic results at minimum dose levels and in the shortest possible time. Astelion’s intelligent workflow support ensures that the Vet can take advantage of this premium technology when scanning pets. The Astelion Advance CT system packs a 36kW X-ray Generator, the X-ray tube and Detector system rotate around the patient in a mere 0.75s, and generates up to 15 images per second.

Toshiba’s industry-leading Quantum Detector technology provides consistent high image quality across all clinical targets and in all imaging planes thanks to its unique 0.5mm detector cells, the smallest of any CT detector in the world. Regardless of the procedure the Vet is always assured of superior diagnostic results without compromising on or patient safety.

Shola said "It has been a significant investment for us but allows us to greatly increase the speed, accuracy and range of the diseases which we can now diagnose and treat.
“The last thing owners of sick pets want to do is travel for an unnecessary length of time to get them the veterinary care they need so we hope the availability of our new scanning service will be helpful.
Companion Care Basildon has invested a considerable amount of time in the new equipment and team training, covering safety and patient positioning to ensure the best image is taken, and the outlay is also expected to create new jobs in the future.

“The advanced imaging means we can also use it to help with detecting and treating complicated vascular and lung illnesses, and it can also be used to help prepare animals for delicate surgery.

“By having the scanner in our surgery it means we can avoid any delays in the diagnosis of a problem.

A new room has been specifically built within the Companion Care practice to accommodate the scanner. It means will also be able to take in pets from other Essex practices, who require a CT scan.

Shola added: “The feedback from pet owners has been fantastic. This type of innovative technology means we can provide the best service possible our patients, something we’re very passionate about.”
