Staff from CVS practices are recovering after trekking 25 miles along Hadrian's Wall on Saturday 26 September. The teams undertook the challenge to raise funds for Support Dogs, the practice's charity of the year for 2015. They have already raised more than £8,000, exceeding their original target by more than £5,000.
Three teams primarily made up of vets, nurses and support staff took part in the challenge, setting off from the ancient Roman fort of Brocolitia at 8.00 am on Saturday and finishing at Lanercost Priory in Cumbria at 5.15 pm. They completed the challenge in just over nine hours, beating the average time of 12 hours. Commenting, Marketing and Commercial Director Barry Brackner said: "Many of us were a little sore and nursing blisters for a few days afterwards but we all thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and were grateful for dry, mild weather. We are absolutely delighted to have raised so much money for Support Dogs. It will be added to the total we have already raised from fundraising activities across the business, including the highly competitive Bake Off competition which is currently underway at our Support Office. The grand total will be announced at the CVS Conference in November."
Support Dogs is a national charity dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life for people with medical conditions by training and supporting specialist assistance dogs. It currently trains Autism Assistance Dogs, Disability Assistance Dogs and Seizure Alert Dogs. Rita Howson, Chief Executive at Support Dogs, added: "What a fantastic result from the CVS teams! Support Dogs has a truly life- changing impact on all those we help and, as a result, we are experiencing an overwhelming demand for our work with a plea for help coming in every ten hours. This contribution will be really help us and we are so delighted to be CVS' charity of the year."
