The decision from the RCVS disciplinary committee on the case of Mr. Chikosi, a zimbabwean vet working for Vets Now has created a great deal of controversy.

Vets Now have issued a statement here.

This is a difficult one; I can't really comment on whether the RCVS decision was right or wrong and one of the things that made this difficult is that Mr. Chikosi has already gone back to Zimbabwe.

What's difficult is that the DC said you can't move a critically injured patient on a blanket. The trouble with this kind of thing is that I suspect 90% of the practising members of the College could envisage themselves being in a similar position: Unable to go out due to commitments in-house or elsewhere, and left with no choice but to advise whoever ran over the dog or cat to take the cat to the surgery.

Loads of vets have advised clients to do this when they've had no choice. I've done it. I've even helped other people to move their injured pets on blankets when I had nothing else available.
