ID:	57964 An Exeter based business that was founded in 2016 has quickly grown into the UK’s biggest recruitment agency for the veterinary industry and is on track to double in size over the next 12 months, as well as establishing an overseas client base.
JHP Recruitment was founded by Justin Powlesland and now employs a team of 12 at offices at Airport Business Park. The company specialises in recruiting both permanent and locum vets and nurses, as well as other staff, for veterinary practices throughout the UK and is now winning an increasing amount of work in both Europe and the USA.
In recent years, JHP Recruitment has also scooped a string of awards. These include winning Best Veterinary Recruitment Specialist at the LUX Pet Product & Services awards three times and being voted Most Trusted Veterinary Recruitment Company at the Vet Trust Awards. The company also scooped silver at the recent Business Champion Awards in the SME category, which attracted more than 900 entries.
Justin Powlesland, managing director at JHP Recruitment, said: “Having worked in veterinary recruitment since 2009, I know the industry inside out and initially started JHP Recruitment as a one-man band from my garage. However, within a matter of months I was recruiting for some of the biggest companies in the industry, whilst also recruiting for my own business and expanding into an office.
“Within three months there were three of us and we’ve never looked back, having quickly established a vast client base that includes nearly all the large corporate veterinary groups, as well as independently owned veterinary practices that are based all across the UK. In addition, our reputation is spreading and we’re now working with a growing list of veterinary practices in Europe and the USA, which is a major growth area for us, and aim to double the size of our team by the end of next year.
“Our success is based on our ability to build long term partnerships with clients and establish a genuine understanding of both the practices and candidates that we work with. This means we can help practices nurture their own culture and it enables us to give vets, nurses and practice support staff the platform they need to build a career that matches their ambitions. We are also proactive in the veterinary industry, helping to sponsor young vets during their training and promoting the industry as a career to young people in schools and colleges across the UK.”
Justin added: “The pandemic has accelerated this further by boosting the pet population, which has put a strain on veterinary practices at a time when there are fewer vets coming to work in the UK from the EU.
“As a result, it’s a particularly good time for vets and nurses that are looking for new positions and we’re also advising practices on the packages they need to offer to attract and retain the best talent. All this combines to make it an exciting time for JHP Recruitment.”
