Mr Leonard Warnett, from Tonbridge, has been a client at Pennard Vets for 60 years this year, and he also celebrated his 100th birthday recently. When the team at Pennard Vets found out it was his birthday, they arranged a special celebration for him in the practice.
Claire Ross, Registered Veterinary Nurse and Practice Principal from Pennard Vets, said: “Mr Warnett started coming to this practice in the 1960s, when the vet who his wife worked for in Hadlow Common retired, and has been a client for 60 years! We have looked after his current cat Whitey for 20 years, and Mr Warnett, who kindly takes in and cares for stray cats, has also brought many of those to us over the years.
“When we found out that Mr Warnett was turning 100, we could not let such a special milestone pass by without celebrating it. Veterinary support team member, Jackie Jones, made a fabulous birthday cake and we invited Mr Warnett to come and celebrate his birthday with us. We all sang happy birthday, and it was a great occasion.”
Before retiring, Mr Warnett worked for the Ministry of Defence and had an interesting career, which included working on the electronic gyro system for the Royal Yacht Britannia.
Claire Ross added: “I think Mr Warnett and Whitey might just have the oldest six legs in the UK, but they are still both in good health.”
Mr Warnett said: “It was a lovely gesture from Jackie, Anne, Claire and the rest of the team at Pennard Vets. I can’t thank them enough and I was very impressed with the cake! I still love to cook and bake, and the cake was delicious! The team always have time for us and have given my pets and the strays the very best care over the years. I hope to be visiting the practice for many more years to come!”
Pennard Vets, has seven practices in Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Maidstone, Allington, Borough Green, Langley Park and West Malling. In 2021 Pennard Vets became the largest veterinary practice in the world to become employee owned, through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), meaning its entire team are now practice owners and shareholders in the business.
