ID:	54481 Purina PetCare has announced it will continue its work with UK charity StreetVet, by providing appropriate veterinary diets for dogs and cats whose owners are experiencing homelessness and whose pets are in need of specialist therapeutic food.

StreetVet won Purina’s BetterwithPets Prize last year, which meant the charity was awarded £41,500 in prize money to fund its Accredited Hostel Scheme. After winning the competition in June 2020, StreetVet officially launched the Accredited Hostel Scheme in November, with The Elms hostel in Hemel Hempstead the first to offer accommodation to owners and their pets with the new accreditation in place.

Having the ability to recommend Purina therapeutic food will ensure that StreetVet veterinary surgeons can effectively recommend a strong nutritional management protocol with targeted, science-based and proven formulas to support pet health.

The initiative means that StreetVet vets will be able to recommend any specific Purina veterinary diet to fit the needs of their patient and it will be supplied free of charge for the full duration of time it is needed. Nutrition plays a key role in the maintenance of pet health, alongside other management and therapeutic solutions.

StreetVet founder, Jade Statt says the agreement is great news for pet owners experiencing homelessness and the pets they love so much: “A pet is sometimes our client’s strongest source of non-judgemental support and unconditional love. By giving fundamental veterinary care we help support that bond and also deliver hope. We’re so pleased to be working with Purina to supply appropriate veterinary diets free of charge for our clients’ pets, knowing that can make such a big contribution to wellbeing and longevity.”

Head of Vet Sales UK, Natalie Weatherley, said: “Day-in, day-out Jade and the StreetVet team demonstrate true compassion, putting into action a programme that has improved the health of hundreds of pets and showed their owners that they matter too. We’re delighted to be able to continue to support their work, which is built on deep love for pets and belief in the power of the pet-human bond – things we are equally passionate about at Purina too.”
