Davies Veterinary Specialists (Davies) staff are making the most of their daily exercise during National Walking Month this month to raise money for Dogs on the Street (DOTS) and local charity Keech Hospice.

The small animal referral hospital based in Hertfordshire has organised the Davies Distance Challenge in recognition of National Walking Month during May. It involves teams of four people tracking the collective distance exercise they do between 4th -29th May 2020. Individuals or teams are asking friends and family to sponsor them or they can make donations themselves to help raise funds for Davies’ charity of the year Dogs on the Street (DOTS) at https://www.dogsonthestreets.org/donate or to local charity Keech Hospice at https://www.keech.org.uk/donate, in memory of Davies radiographer Sue Whitfield.

DOTS is a volunteer run, not-for-profit charity dedicated to the welfare of dogs belonging to the UK’s homeless community. DOTS operates mobile weekly street “stations’ across the UK offering food and dietary advice as well as providing accessories such as coats, bedding, collars and leads. DOTS creates pathways for owner rehabilitation to overcome many mental health issues, which can often only be achieved with their dogs by their side https://www.dogsonthestreets.org/
Keech Hospice provides free, specialist care for adults in Luton and south Bedfordshire, and children from Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes, who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses. Davies chose the charity in memory of their colleague, much-loved Radiographer Sue Whitfield, who was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer in 2013 and recently passed away.

Rachel Evans Green Group Coordinator, who masterminded the challenge said: “Things are a little stressful for us all during the Covid-19 pandemic and it’s more important than ever to stay connected and healthy. In honour of May being National Walking Month we have decided to make the most of our daily exercise and help raise some money for our nominated charities because all charities need a little help at the moment!”
