Experts in nutrition, Royal Canin, will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday 27th November exploring the diagnosis and management of feline diabetes mellitus.

The webinar, aptly named “Challenges and Solutions in Diagnosis and Management of Feline Diabetes Mellitus”, will feature guest speaker Dr Sarah Caney (BVSc DSAM MRCVS RCVS, specialist in feline medicine).

The topic in question, diabetes mellitus, is estimated to affect around 1 in 200 cats and is the second most common endocrinopathy after hyperthyroidism. Risk factors can include gender and neuter status, lifestyle and medication history and most relevant today, obesity.

Dr Sarah Caney will advise and explore the tell-tale signs of feline diabetes mellitus and how the condition is best managed.

Dr Caney commented: “The prevalence of feline diabetes mellitus is thought to be on the increase and diagnosis can be made more challenging by the stress hyperglycaemia phenomenon that cats are vulnerable to.

“By exploring and dissecting successful strategies and ways in which diabetic remission can be achieved, this webinar will hopefully assist veterinary professionals how to diagnose and manage effectively with great end results for both owner and cat.”

Dr Sarah Caney is an internationally recognised specialist in feline medicine who has worked as a feline-only vet for more than twenty years. Having trained as a specialist at the University of Bristol, Sarah is one of twelve recognised specialists in feline medicine working within the UK.
