The International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) welcomed over 500 vets from 35 countries to its Feline Veterinary Congress in the beautiful town of Sorrento, on Italy’s famous Amalfi coast.

The scientific programme covered two themes: urology and oncology, with talks from renowned experts in these fields. Also on offer were three in-depth masterclasses and five sponsor-lead symposia. Running alongside this scientific programme was a busy commercial exhibition where delegates could find out about the latest products and services from leading suppliers, as well as a display of 26 posters showcasing original research. All of this took place in the Hilton Sorrento Palace, overlooking the Bay of Naples with the majestic Vesuvius looming across the water.

These five days of first-class CPD were balanced by plenty of time to socialise at three evening receptions, sponsored by Ceva, Hills and IDEXX, in the magical setting of the hotel’s ‘enchanted garden’ and atmospheric indoor grotto. Delegates were treated to an afternoon off to explore the many attractions of this area rich in history and natural beauty, including the world-famous archaeological site of Pompeii, and the beautiful island of Capri.

The congress could not have taken place without the support of our Congress Sponsors: founding partner Hill’s, platinum congress partners Bayer, Boehringer Ingelheim, IDEXX Laboratories and Ceva, gold congress partner Virbac and other sponsor Agria Pet Insurance.

Regular attendees of the congress have come to expect great value CPD in an attractive setting with a friendly atmosphere, and this year’s event did not disappoint them. As one delegate put it: ‘You did it again! A super congress!!! Thank you for all the good work and maintaining the high level. I’ll be back…’ Another summed up the event as follows: ‘The ISFM Congress is a great way to hear about the latest developments in feline medicine and surgery. Making new friends and catching up with old friends, comparing notes and experiences and sharing (at least) one passion: our feline friends.’

This year marks the 60th anniversary of ISFM’s parent charity, International Cat Care. In celebration of this milestone and to generate vital funds for the charity’s work to improve feline welfare worldwide, delegates raised an incredible €3,500 through donations and raffle ticket purchases.

Almost 300 people have already registered their interest for next year’s congress taking place from 26th – 30th June, in the stunning town of Cavtat, Croatia, with a scientific programme covering feline infectious diseases. The event will be held in Hotel Croatia, situated on a sun-bathed, pine-forested peninsula with spectacular views of the open sea. More information will be made available on http://icatcare.org/isfm-congress.
