A vet from Paddock Wood, near Maidstone, in Kent will add to the £14,000 he has already raised for charities when he participates in the London Marathon for fifth time on Sunday 23 April 2017.Mr Rob Everitt, an assistant vet at Putlands Veterinary Surgery, will, this year, be fundraising for Alzheimer’s Research and has already raised more than £2,000 in sponsorship for the charity. He has previously raised funds for charities which carry out research into multiple sclerosis.

Commenting, he said: “My preparation this year has been made more difficult by injury but I’m now averaging 30 miles a week in training and really looking forward to the big day.I run through some of the lovely countryside around us and find it gives me time to reflect and relax.I’m also a regular participant in park runs.Because of my injury problems, I’m not expecting to beat my top time so far of three hours and 11 minutes – but I’m still hoping to get around in under four hours.

“The best thing about the day is the support you get from fellow participants and from everyone who comes along to watch. It really makes you feel that you are part of something amazing and helps to push you on.It’s also a fantastic route – the run down The Mall at the end is hard to beat!

“The charities that I’ve fundraised for have all been important to me for particular reasons and I’m so grateful to our clients at Putlands and to everyone else who has supported me, including our fabulous reception team - Maureen, Maggie, Immy, Emma and Anita - who have helped enormously with collecting donations.

“Alzheimer’s is a condition which is affecting more and more families so research is urgently needed.I’ll be working hard to raise as much as I can for Alzheimer’s Research on 23 April.”
