A handful of employers are urgently needed to help shape the future of veterinary nursing.

The pioneering Veterinary Nurse Trailblazer apprenticeship scheme has attracted support from major employers and professional organisations, and would replace NVQs as an alternative route into the profession than university.

The committee should be employer-led and employers can make a vital contribution by signing up to join the committee to push this important project over the finish line.

Philip Lhermette, BSAVA Junior Vice President, said: “The veterinary profession has a problem with veterinary nurse recruitment and this is one exciting additional solution that really is in the hands of employers. We are almost there and just need the requisite number of employers on board, as we approach the end of the process. If you own a veterinary practice and employ Veterinary Nurses please consider helping with this important initiative.”
