Volunteering in Malawi

2017 will be our third year in Malawi, and we are looking for volunteers to join our mass vaccination drive in April and May, vaccinating over 35,000 dogs in our fight to eliminate rabies from Blantyre. In addition, we'll be providing vital education on how to behave around dogs and rabies prevention to children across the city. Applications have just opened on our website for two week placements for both education and vaccination volunteers, with options for vets, vet students and non-vets. You do not need any previous or even veterinary experience!

If you’d like to join us on an exciting and rewarding trip that has a real and long term impact, saving lives in Malawi, go to our website for more information and to apply. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us enquiries@missionrabies.com.
Sri Lanka Vaccination Drive September 2016
For the second year, Mission Rabies has worked with local Partner Dogstar Foundation to deliver a mass canine vaccination campaign in Negombo, Sri Lanka.
Using both 141 “pop up” vaccination clinics and a door-to-door vaccination programme, Mission Rabies have vaccinated more than 7,000 dogs. Mission Rabies International Veterinary Project Manager Jordana and an amazing team of international volunteers joined the Sri Lanka team in September, throwing themselves into the work with great enthusiasm, running across beaches and down roads behind the dog catching team, vaccinating, checking sterilised dogs for microchips, recording all the data on the Mission Rabies App and painting every vaccinated dog with paint for the resight surveys.
Jordana said “The entire city has literally gone Mission Rabies crazy, from bars and hotels displaying Mission Rabies posters and banners, to local tuk tuk drivers proudly wearing Mission Rabies bracelets and advising locals and tourists on the importance of the programme.
We have a few more days in the field to finish the north of the city, but with over 7000 dogs already vaccinated and the resight surveys showing well over 70 % vaccination coverage we are delighted with the success of Mission Rabies Sri Lanka 2016 and already planning the 2017 campaign.”
