A London vet, who started cycling the five miles to work on his bike less than a year ago, has completed a gruelling 280 mile, 24 hour cycle ride from London to Paris. Will Chandler, who works at the Stone Lion Veterinary Hospital in Wimbledon, began cycling from Clapham to work in December but quickly got the ‘bug’ and decided to undertake the charity cycling challenge three months ago. Together with 146 fellow charity cyclists, he left Blackheath in London on Saturday 16 July and arrived under the Eiffel Tower in the centre of Paris on Sunday 17, less than 24 hours later. Together they have raised more than £100,000 for Scope, a charity which works to give disabled people the same opportunities as able-bodied people.

Commenting, he said: “I started training in April so I’ve had to push myself, especially as I lost three weeks’ training when my bike was stolen. I thoroughly enjoyed the race and came through in the front peloton, finishing in under 24 hours, which I was really pleased about. Staying awake at 8.00 am on Sunday after no sleep was tough but it was well worth it!”
He added: “It was great to raise so much money for Scope, a charity which does so much to provide support, advice and information to more than a quarter of a million disabled people and their family members every year.”
